Kitchen Design Trends change regularly.  But make no mistake readers – when it comes to Irish kitchens – the single most requested design feature is now the kitchen pantry.

Irish kitchens have become hubs – for cooking, eating, entertaining and sometimes working – so storage and “hiding the mess” has become a hugely important factor in kitchen design.

We are not alone in spotting this trend.  Houzz, the leading home website, conducted a survey early in 2016, and discovered the pantry to be the top new kitchen feature in Ireland.

So – if you’re considering a pantry as part of your new kitchen design – what are some of the options available to you?

Option 1: Fully Shelved Pantry – this may be with solid shelving, MDF or MFC – a price competitive, simple and functional option.

Option 2: Shelves & Pullout Wirebaskets Pantry – we love the idea of shelving the top part of a pantry and then using pullout wirebaskets in the lower half of the pantry – allowing easier access.

Option 3: Shelves & Internal Drawers Pantry – There is nothing better than a robust internal drawer.  We use Grass Nova Pro Airmatic Drawers – they are soft closing and can carry 40kg on their runners – so you have strength and easy access all in one super package.

Option 4: Shelved with Internal Tandem Larder Wirework Pantry – Part Shelved and part tandem larder – a very elegant solution for the homeowner.

Option 5: Tandem Larder Wirework Pantry – providing storage with strength.

Option 6: Pullout Wirework Pantry – not our favourite of all the pantry wirework mechanisms – we try to veer away from this – because the mechanism often runs on one runner and is prone to overloading by customers.

Option 6: Fixed Metal Shelving Pantry – Another pretty, very modern pared back option.

Option 7: Solid Oak Pantry with Oak Dovetail Drawers & Oak Pantry Door Racks – the most beautiful kitchen pantry that is available on the market.  The solid oak pantry with oak dovetail drawers is very labour intensive – but incredibly desirable and beautiful in a traditional kitchen.
